Video compressor

Make a video small enough for X, Discord, Slack or email. Pick a target size and get an MP4 that fits, right in your browser, so the video never leaves your device.

How it works

  1. Pick your video. Any MP4, MOV or WebM, as long as you like.
  2. Choose a target. A size like 10 MB, or a quality level. Lower the resolution or frame rate if you want it smaller still.
  3. Download the MP4. See the size before and after, then post it.

File size limits by platform

Where you share itLimit for free accountsPick
Discord10 MB10 MB
X (Twitter)512 MB, but large files upload slowly25 or 50 MB
Gmail attachment25 MB25 MB
Outlook attachment20 MBCustom, 19 MB
Slack1 GB, but previews load faster when small50 MB

Limits change often, so check the app if a file is refused. Sizes here are in MB of 1,000,000 bytes, the way most apps count them.

How the compressor hits a size

The tool works out a bitrate from your target and the length of the video, keeps room for the sound, then encodes the video in H.264 at that rate. If the file still comes out over the target, it runs once more a little smaller.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compress a video to under 10 MB for Discord?

Choose your video, keep Target size on 10 MB and Resolution on Auto, then press Compress video. Short clips stay sharp. For anything over a minute, trim it first or pick 24 fps.

Is this video compressor free?

Yes. No sign-up, no watermark and no limit. The video is processed in your browser, so it is never uploaded.

Will the video lose quality?

Some, as with any compression. H.264 at a sensible bitrate looks close to the original, and Auto resolution avoids the blocky look of too few bits. Use Quality mode on High if size matters less.

Can I compress a video for email?

Yes. Gmail allows 25 MB per email, so pick 25 MB. For Outlook, pick Custom and enter 19.

Why is my compressed file still too big?

A target that is tiny for a long video can't be reached at a watchable quality, and the tool warns you before you start. Trim the video, pick a lower resolution or frame rate, or remove the sound.

Which browsers does it work in?

A recent Chrome or Edge on a computer is fastest. Safari 16.4 and newer works too. The tool needs WebCodecs, the browser feature that encodes video, and tells you if your browser lacks it.
