The hardest part of a launch video is not the editing. It is the words. Most scripts try to say everything and end up saying nothing, because a video gives you far fewer words than a landing page.

Below are three script templates you can copy, one for each common length, with a filled-in example under each. Swap in your own product and you have a script in ten minutes.

> **The short version:** one idea per video, one line per scene, about two to three words per second of screen time, and your real product on screen within the first ten seconds.

## Rules before you write

These apply to every template below.

- **One idea.** Finish this sentence first: *after watching, people should know that this product...* If you need the word "and", you have two videos.
- **One line per scene.** If a scene needs two sentences, make it two scenes.
- **Two to three words per second.** People read on-screen text slower than they listen. A three second scene holds six to nine words, not twenty.
- **Write for sound off.** Every key line goes on screen as text. Music and voiceover are a bonus, never the only place the message lives.
- **Start with their problem, not your logo.** Nobody knows you yet.

## 15 second script template

Best for X, TikTok and other fast feeds.

| Time | Scene | Your line |
|---|---|---|
| 0 to 3 s | Hook | [The problem, in their words] |
| 3 to 5 s | Name | [Product name]: [what it does in five words] |
| 5 to 12 s | Product | [Real screen showing the result] |
| 12 to 15 s | Call to action | [URL] |

**Example (a made-up product):**

- 0 to 3 s: "Release notes take longer than the release."
- 3 to 5 s: "Shiplog writes them for you."
- 5 to 12 s: A merged pull request turning into a finished changelog post.
- 12 to 15 s: "shiplog.dev"

## 30 second script template

The sweet spot for most launches.

| Time | Scene | Your line |
|---|---|---|
| 0 to 4 s | Hook | [The problem they recognise] |
| 4 to 7 s | Turn | [So we built / Meet / Now there is...] |
| 7 to 10 s | Name | [Product name] + [one line description] |
| 10 to 15 s | Benefit 1 | [The main result, on a real screen] |
| 15 to 20 s | Benefit 2 | [A second result or a speed claim] |
| 20 to 25 s | Benefit 3 | [The detail people will not expect] |
| 25 to 30 s | Call to action | [Try it free / Live today] + [URL] |

**Example (a made-up product):**

- 0 to 4 s: "Your users found the bug before you did."
- 4 to 7 s: "Not anymore."
- 7 to 10 s: "Tracewise: error alerts that tell you why."
- 10 to 15 s: "Every crash, grouped by cause."
- 15 to 20 s: "The exact commit that broke it."
- 20 to 25 s: "A fix suggestion, right in Slack."
- 25 to 30 s: "Try it free at tracewise.io"

## 60 second script template

For Product Hunt, YouTube and your homepage, where people are willing to watch a short walkthrough.

| Time | Scene | Your line |
|---|---|---|
| 0 to 5 s | Hook | [The problem, plainly] |
| 5 to 10 s | Stakes | [What it costs them today] |
| 10 to 14 s | Name | [Product name] + [one line description] |
| 14 to 24 s | Step 1 | [The input: what the user does first] |
| 24 to 36 s | Step 2 | [The result: what they get] |
| 36 to 46 s | Step 3 | [The detail or integration that makes it stick] |
| 46 to 53 s | Proof | [A number, a quote or a before and after] |
| 53 to 60 s | Call to action | [URL] + [offer, if any] |

**Example (a made-up product):**

- 0 to 5 s: "Every Monday, someone builds the same report by hand."
- 5 to 10 s: "Three hours. Every week. Out of date by Tuesday."
- 10 to 14 s: "Weekly: your metrics, written up for you."
- 14 to 24 s: "Connect Stripe, PostHog or your database."
- 24 to 36 s: "Get a plain English summary of what changed and why."
- 36 to 46 s: "Sent to Slack or email before your standup."
- 46 to 53 s: "Teams in beta saved three hours a week."
- 53 to 60 s: "Start free at getweekly.app"

## Turn the script into scenes

Once your lines are written, each row becomes one scene. Pair every line with one visual:

- **Hook and stakes:** bold text on a clean background, or a quick shot of the old, painful way.
- **Name:** your logo and one line.
- **Benefits and steps:** your real product. A screenshot or a few seconds of screen recording.
- **Proof:** a big number or a short quote.
- **Call to action:** your URL, held for at least two seconds.

## Frequently asked questions

### How many words should a 30 second launch video have?

About 60 to 75 words of on-screen text at most, split across seven or eight scenes. Fewer is usually better. If people cannot read a line before the scene changes, cut words.

### Should a launch video have a voiceover?

It helps but is optional. Many people watch with sound off, so put every key line on screen as text first. Add a voiceover that says the same lines if you want extra polish.

### What is the best structure for a launch video?

Problem, turn, product name, two or three benefits on your real interface, proof if you have it, then a call to action with your URL.

### Can AI write my launch video script?

Yes. Filmagic writes a full script and scene list from your website, and you can edit any line before you export.
